As museums and tourism facilities around the world continue to look for new ways to share information with their customers, one newly formed Dutch company has rolled out the latest generation of interactive tours.

Formed in September 2013, Amsterdam-based i-Tour360 has developed an interactive guide that tells the stories behind great locations – all from the user's smartphone.

i-Tour360 works together with the Izi Travel platform to allow museums, cultural organisations, tourism companies and local councils to produce and create their own multimedia tours.

With the use of a simple content management system, museums can upload their own content and share this with their customers.

"Uploading images, text, video and audio – along with links to social media – will help museums to market their unique product," said i-Tour360 spokesman, Arjaan Kunst.

Ease of use for the customer is key for i-Tour360, and the company is hoping its innovative solution will become standard across the sector, meaning visitors will only have to download one application, and not separate software packages for each venue.

"Many leading museums around the world are exploring the possibilities offered by new technology," Kunst said. "The i-Tour360 app allows users to share content with their friends. In addition, our tours can be held both inside museums and outside with no roaming costs to the visitor."
