Construction has started at the Leipzig park on a new themed area built around a Gerstlauer family launch coaster, the next step in BELANTIS’s transformation into Germany’s first Asterix park.
BELANTIS held a groundbreaking ceremony on 29 June 2026 for a new themed area due to open in 2027, centred on a family launch coaster from German manufacturer Gerstlauer Amusement Rides. Saxony’s state minister for economic affairs, Dirk Panter, joined BELANTIS managing director Filip De Witte and park director Martin Endruhn at the event near Leipzig. Costumed appearances by Asterix and Obelix marked the ceremony, reflecting the park’s ongoing shift towards the comic franchise.
The new attraction will replace the existing “Strand der Götter” themed zone, which will be substantially redesigned. Compagnie des Alpes, which acquired BELANTIS in 2025, is pursuing a long-term plan with licensor Les Éditions Albert René to develop the park into the first Asterix-branded destination outside France. The transformation is expected to continue in stages through to 2030 or 2031.
The groundbreaking follows the May 2026 opening of Idéfix’ Abenteuerland, the first visible step in that wider transformation. As part of the new construction, BELANTIS has temporarily closed its Götterflug flying ride, with the park yet to confirm whether it will reopen later in 2026 or in the 2027 season.
De Witte said the new themed area represented a further step in BELANTIS’s development, with each new attraction making the park’s vision more tangible. Panter referenced the growing popularity of the Leipziger Neuseenland region among tourists, noting that the wider area continues to develop economically alongside the city of Leipzig.
