Compagnie des Alpes has launched the first Asterix-themed zone at BELANTIS near Leipzig, beginning a phased conversion into the first Parc Astérix outside France, targeted for 2030/31.
BELANTIS near Leipzig opened Idefix’ Abenteuerland on 27 May 2026. The launch marks the first step in the park’s transformation into the first Parc Astérix outside France. The new zone features four brand-new attractions and an adventure playground. Anne Goscinny, daughter of Astérix co-creator René Goscinny, attended the opening ceremony.
The zone targets families with younger children. ‘Idefix’ River Ride’ is a mini water ride by French manufacturer Reverchon. Three further rides come from Italian manufacturer Zamperla.
‘Freshling Driving School’ is a Speedway-type car ride. ‘Aerobix Flying Machine’ is a Magic Bike Ride in which riders control their own flight height through movement. ‘Soapbox Whirl’ adds a Go Go Bounze ride with dynamic vertical movement. Spielart of Thuringia built ‘Idefix’ Hideout’, the zone’s nature-oriented adventure playground.
BELANTIS is owned by Compagnie des Alpes (CdA), the French leisure group that acquired the park in April 2025 for approximately €22 million. The previous owner was Spanish operator Parques Reunidos. CdA also operates Parc Astérix near Paris, which drew 2.8 million visitors in 2023. CdA announced the Asterix transformation in December 2025.
The full rebrand to Asterix Park Deutschland is planned for 2030/31. CdA estimates the revamped park could attract 900,000 to one million visitors per year – a substantial increase on the roughly 300,000 the site drew under previous management. Germany counts more than 130 million Astérix albums sold, making it the second-largest market for the brand after France.
The park’s location close to Leipzig, Dresden and Berlin, combined with direct motorway access via the A38, underpins the site’s case as a major visitor destination. The site spans around 80 hectares, with roughly 41 hectares held in reserve for future development. CdA said the transformation ‘demonstrates the strength of the Astérix brand and its attractiveness’. Wolf Stegmaier of Story House Egmont, the Asterix publisher for German-speaking markets, described the opening as a new destination for fans of the series.
BELANTIS opened in 2003 and currently operates more than 60 attractions across eight themed areas. The 2026 season began on 28 March.
