The UK’s largest indoor waterpark will complete a major facilities upgrade before the Easter holidays to modernise the guest experience.
Blackpool’s Sandcastle Waterpark has announced a £500,000 refurbishment programme to mark its 40th anniversary. Opened in 1986 on the South Promenade, the indoor venue remains a staple of the coastal resort’s tourism economy. The project answers the immediate need to modernise secondary guest spending areas and improve site aesthetics before the peak summer rush. Management divided the construction work into two phases to limit operational downtime.
The primary focus of the capital expenditure is the complete redevelopment of the Changing Village facilities. Contractors replaced every element from floor to ceiling to create a brighter, more contemporary environment. The venue successfully opened the first phase of this zone during the February school holidays. The second phase of the changing area will be ready before the upcoming Easter break.
Kyle Woodcock, general manager of Sandcastle Waterpark, noted that the investment targets improvements guests will directly feel. ‘The new changing village, refreshed look and upgraded audio system are all part of our ongoing commitment to providing a world-class experience,’ Woodcock stated. ‘We received fantastic feedback on the new facilities.’
Beyond the changing rooms, technicians fitted a brand-new audio system across the entire site. Painters also applied fresh coatings to the waterpark’s 18 slides and attractions. These slides include the Master Blaster, a 200-metre indoor water coaster, and the Sidewinder half-pipe. The architectural refresh ensures the hardware can withstand the tropical, humid indoor microclimate.
