Dragon Khan, PortAventura World’s most iconic roller coaster, is preparing for an “unprecedented technical renovation” at the end of its 30th anniversary season.
“Starting from the resort’s shutdown in January, and in collaboration with its manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard Consulting Engineers Inc, a highly complex maintenance work will be carried out,” stated PortAventura World in a press release.
“This (track enhancement) includes a partial retrack involving the replacement of track segments, specifically on the vertical loop and the cobra roll. This essential renovation will ensure that Dragon Khan continues delivering its unique thrills and adrenaline for many years to come.”
Since opening in 1995, Dragon Khan has become one of the roller coaster communities most fevered thrill rides for its vertical loop and cobra roll especially. The roller coaster broke the record for the most inversions on one ride, with eight in total.
The theming derived from Chinese mythology: the Dragon Khan was the reincarnated spirit of the evil Prince Hu of Beijing. His fury “unleashed” each time a human dared to climb atop his back.
In addition, PortAventura World commented that “we remain committed to continuous improvement in order to offer unforgettable experiences to our visitors.”
