Canada’s Wonderland is retheming inverted coaster Flight Deck as The DareDeviler for early summer 2026, with new trains, track upgrades and a refreshed aviation storyline.
Flight Deck gets a new name at Canada’s Wonderland this season, as the Vaughan, Ontario park prepares to relaunch the Vekoma suspended looping coaster as The DareDeviler. The rethemed attraction, scheduled to open in early summer 2026, forms a key part of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation’s investment plan for the property following last year’s AlpenFury launch coaster debut. For industry watchers, the project shows how regional parks are using targeted upgrades and new branding to extend the life of legacy steel coasters.
Originally opened in 1995 as Top Gun under Paramount Parks, the coaster became Flight Deck in 2008 after Cedar Fair acquired the park and phased out film‑based IP. Flight Deck gets a new name in The DareDeviler partly to align more closely with the Grande World Expo themed area, drawing on the aesthetic of early stunt pilots rather than a modern jet‑combat narrative. Canada’s Wonderland has confirmed that the ride layout will remain unchanged, preserving a familiar footprint while focusing investment on comfort and show quality.
Hardware changes sit at the core of the upgrade as Flight Deck gets a new name and new rolling stock. The DareDeviler will run with second‑generation Vekoma SLC trains, featuring open, vest‑style restraints designed to reduce head‑banging and improve sightlines. Targeted track refinements are planned to smooth transitions through the inversions, with the park promising a ‘smoother, more immersive experience’ for riders.
Park manager Heather Hill framed the project as a way to refresh a long‑time signature coaster without losing its core appeal. ‘We are looking forward to breathing new life into one of our classic roller coasters,’ said Hill. ‘With “The DareDeviler”, we will deliver an even more intense experience with a smoother and more comfortable ride – while “AlpenFury” will continue to provide record‑breaking thrills that already excited guests last season and will do so again in 2026.’ As Canada’s Wonderland reopens on 3 May, The DareDeviler will stand alongside AlpenFury and the park’s 18‑strong coaster line‑up as another lever to reinforce its status within the North American regional thrills market.
