Pairi Daiza, the award‑winning zoo and botanical park in Brugelette, Belgium, has opened Edenya, a vast tropical greenhouse engineered and built by Forzon, part of Deforche Construction Group.
The structure covers around 40,000sqm and reaches 25m at its highest point, giving it a strong claim as one of the largest tropical greenhouses in the world. It now houses a diverse collection of plants and animals in a controlled, year‑round climate that extends the park’s visitor offer beyond the traditional season.
Forzon and Deforche handled the project from concept engineering through to on‑site assembly, a process that took roughly three and a half years. The team combined techniques from stadium roofs and high‑end greenhouse construction, using large prefabricated modules that could be lifted into place in minutes. This approach allowed parallel work on the roof and interior, reducing weather‑related delays and improving safety on site.
Custom glass plays a central role in Edenya’s performance. The glazing balances insulation, light transmission and UV control to support both tropical planting and animal welfare, while also enabling robotic cleaning so that maintenance activity has minimal impact on habitats. Steel and aluminium components have been designed with recyclability in mind, and Deforche highlights cradle‑to‑cradle certified glass and circular‑design principles as key elements of the brief.
