The haunted castle of Geisterschloss (Ghost Castle) in Germany’s largest amusement and leisure park of Europa-Park has reopened to spine-chilling reviews.

The ride is now known as Medici Castle and is a classic in the Italian quarter. The ghost train ride is a much-loved family attraction, giving families plenty of frights since its debut in 1982.

The iconic haunted dark ride closed earlier this year for a re-imagining and Medici Castle how presents a terrifying new spin on the classic ride, bringing Europa-Park’s iconic haunted house ride into the 21st century.

The Mack family inaugurated the revamped Medici Castle with Charles Botta, Roland Mack, Jürgen Mack, Ann-Kathrin Mack and Thomas Mack all present to welcome the return of its Halloween house of horrors.

Ann-Kathrin Mack, partner at Europa-Park and head of MACK Solutions spoke about the fondness of their haunted dark ride: “Many of us, including myself, loved the haunted castle as children and now we want future generations to be able to experience this joy too. The new theming ensures the route is exciting without being too scary, but doing so can still be a small show of courage, just like the old days.”

Guests will be able to travel through this gloomy palace on small gondolas, while ghostly voices ring out and frightening creatures appear all around. While they’ll revisit familiar scenes, the spooky fun that awaits them is totally new. Even Lorenzo, whose story is based on the early Italian Renaissance historical figure “Lorenzo de’ Medici,” seems to be asking for trouble.

The story of Lorenzo’s rise is told, abruptly interrupted by the evil Pazzi family. Lorenzo wants revenge and comes into possession of an ancient stone tablet with strange symbols and writings full of meaning. The text, written in an unknown language, promises immortality to anyone who follows its instructions. And Lorenzo dedicates his entire daily life to the implementation of this plan.

During the four-minute dark ride journey, guests will learn about his experiences and, most importantly, discover whether he will ultimately escape death. The narrative, which amazes with incredible special effects, projections and illustrations, is the work of MACK Solutions.
