Supersonic 1887 will open in 2027 as the French park’s largest single investment, marking its 40th anniversary with its first coaster to feature inversions.

French theme park Nigloland has announced Supersonic 1887, a custom-built Mack Rides Stryker Coaster due to open in 2027. The project represents approximately €18 million – the largest investment in the park’s history to date. The timing is deliberate. Nigloland is scheduling the debut to coincide with its 40th anniversary.

The ride is a shuttle coaster with two spike elements, reaching 47 metres at its highest point and a top speed of 91 km/h. The physical track runs 355 metres, but the forward-and-backward shuttle system doubles the total ride distance to 770 metres. Three launch sections deliver six separate acceleration sequences, alongside three inversions and six airtime moments.

Two 16-seat trains will operate, each including eight floorless wing seats where riders’ feet hang free. To accommodate the trains’ dimensions, the park has modified its station infrastructure, including a heavy-duty rotating transfer platform. A minimum height of 130 cm applies.

Construction covers approximately 8,500 square metres, with around half of the track positioned over water across the park’s existing Mississippi area. The initial construction phase hit a significant milestone during the winter of 2025–2026, when 1,200 cubic metres of concrete were poured to secure the foundations. An expected construction timeline of 600 days lies ahead.

The attraction sits within a newly themed area. The narrative draws on the 1887 World’s Fair, centring on the fictional character Émile Delaroche – an engineer said to have developed a steam-powered vehicle capable of reaching supersonic speeds. Several existing attractions in the zone will be rethemed as national pavilions from that era.

Development on the concept began in 2022, with Nigloland’s own creative and technical teams designing the original concept and custom styling the trains. Rodolphe Gélis, president and director of Nigloland, confirmed the scale of the commitment. “Supersonic is a project designed by our creative and technical teams, which we have entrusted to one of the leading manufacturers, known for the quality of its work and its many innovations. It is the most ambitious project Nigloland has ever undertaken,” he said.

Regional contractors from the Aube department have been engaged across the project, including L’Atelier d’Orient for architecture, Augustin & Colas for earthworks, and CRN for structural masonry.

The Mack Rides Stryker Coaster platform made its debut at Europa-Park. Supersonic 1887 will be the type’s second installation – and its first in shuttle configuration.
