Tokyo amusement park, Hanayashiki, welcoming guests for 140 years, is to debut an upgraded haunted house and eatery this summer.
Hanayashiki’s renovated haunted house open on July 20.
Located in downtown Tokyo’s Asakusa neighbourhood, the historic theme park will open a new section of the park and reinvigorate a popular attraction.
The haunted house is being renovated and re-themed, with its new backstory based on the Four Great Kaidan of Edo (kaidan being traditional Japanese horror stories and Edo the old name for Tokyo). The walk-through attraction covers 74-metres (243-foot) in total.
Adding to the haunting theme is the Mysterious Scoop Cameraman AR game, where guests use a special device to search the park for yokai, the ghoulish monsters of Japanese folklore, and capture photographs of them.
Hanayashiki is also including a new gastronomic area called the Ohanami Chashitsu (Flower-viewing Teahouse) with a variety of snacks and sweets.
