Tormenta Rampaging Run gets 9 July opening date

Six Flags Over Texas has confirmed Tormenta Rampaging Run will open on 9 July 2026, nearly two weeks after its original 65th-anniversary debut date was missed.

Six Flags Over Texas has set 9 July 2026 as the opening date for Tormenta Rampaging Run, the world’s first giga dive coaster, ending uncertainty that followed the ride’s delayed debut on 26 June.

The park announced the new date on 1 July. The original opening had been postponed on 22 June when Six Flags confirmed that commissioning and testing were taking longer than expected. No replacement date was given at that point. The park stated at the time: “While this means pausing our current opening timeline, it ensures that when Tormenta charges out of the gates, it will be a ride experience worthy of its name – bold, intense, and unforgettable.”

The delay had been a visible problem. Six Flags Over Texas had positioned Tormenta Rampaging Run as the centrepiece of its 65th anniversary season, with the original date timed to coincide with the park’s anniversary on 26 June. A media preview scheduled for 25 June was also cancelled.

Built by Bolliger & Mabillard, the coaster stands 309 feet tall, reaches 87 mph and claims six world records – all firsts for a dive coaster. The 285-foot first drop descends at a beyond-vertical 95 degrees. The Immelmann inversion peaks at 218 feet and the vertical loop at 179 feet, the tallest on any roller coaster in the world.

The ride anchors Rancho de la Tormenta, a new Spanish village zone within the park’s reimagined Spain area. The zone also introduces Cocina Abuela, a restaurant serving Spanish and Latin American food. Tormenta Rampaging Run entered testing on 27 May 2026.

Pete Carmichael, park president of Six Flags Over Texas, said: “Tormenta Rampaging Run is set to forever change not only the Arlington skyline, but the full lineup of thrills only offered at Six Flags Over Texas.”
