Six Flags Over Texas postpones the launch of its record-breaking giga dive coaster, with no new date confirmed as commissioning work continues.

Six Flags Over Texas has delayed the public opening of Tormenta Rampaging Run. The B&M-built giga dive coaster had been scheduled to debut on 26 June 2026 – the park’s 65th anniversary – but the park confirmed on 22 June that commissioning and testing are taking longer than expected.

In a social media post, the park stated: “While this means pausing our current opening timeline, it ensures that when Tormenta charges out of the gates, it will be a ride experience worthy of its name — bold, intense, and unforgettable.” No replacement date has been announced. A media preview event scheduled for 25 June was also cancelled.

The delay lands at a sensitive moment. Six Flags Over Texas – the original Six Flags park, which opened in Arlington on 1 August 1961 – had positioned Tormenta Rampaging Run as the centrepiece of its anniversary season. The coaster’s hold-up follows a pattern: enthusiast events that had advertised exclusive early ride access were cancelled without explanation before the park formally announced the postponement.

Tormenta Rampaging Run stands 309 feet tall and takes its 285-foot first drop at a 95-degree beyond-vertical angle. Top speed is 87 mph. Track length runs to 4,199 feet. All three are dive coaster world records. The layout includes four inversions: a 218-foot Immelmann loop and a 179-foot vertical loop, the tallest on any roller coaster.

Manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, the coaster anchors Rancho de la Tormenta – a new Spanish village area within the park. The theming draws on the running of the bulls. The zone also introduces Cocina Abuela, a new Spanish and Latin American restaurant.

Pete Carmichael, park president of Six Flags Over Texas, said: “Tormenta Rampaging Run is set to forever change not only the Arlington skyline, but the full lineup of thrills only offered at Six Flags Over Texas.”

The ride entered testing on 27 May 2026. Six Flags has not indicated how long further commissioning work will take.
