The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia will host the world premiere of Universal Theme Parks: The Exhibition on February 14, 2026. The theme park exhibition marks the first major showcase of Universal Destinations & Experiences’ creative processes and technical innovations.
The 18,000-square-foot installation features eight themed galleries and 25 interactive experiences. Visitors can explore over 100 original artifacts from major attractions including Jurassic World, DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon, and Universal Monsters. The theme park exhibition runs through September 7, 2026.
Visitors will find value in the behind-the-scenes content. The galleries showcase ride design, animatronics, robotics, costuming, and special effects technologies. They can access real theme park tools to build coasters, design masks, and program animated figures. Original ride vehicles and props from established attractions provide insight into Universal’s production standards.
Award-winning creative design firm MDSX developed the theme park exhibition in collaboration with Universal. The installation occupies the Nicholas and Athena Karabots Pavilion and the Mandell Center.
Comcast NBCUniversal serves as the local presenting sponsor. PECO provides associate sponsorship. The partnership leverages Philadelphia’s position during the 2026 semi-quincentennial celebrations.
Gerald Raines, Senior Vice President of Global Location Based Entertainment & Licensing at Universal Destinations & Experiences, emphasized the educational value. The exhibit demonstrates technical expertise and innovation processes used across Universal’s global destinations.
The Franklin Institute has established itself as a premier venue for traveling exhibitions in North America. This installation adds to their portfolio of major blockbusters and world premieres.
