Featuring blockbuster movie franchises The Hunger Games, The Divergent Series and The Twilight Saga, Lionsgate Movie World is set to open soon in China.

The indoor theme park in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, offered a sneak peek into its key offerings on December 13. Created in co-operation with global content provider Lionsgate, it will open in first half of 2019 as part of the wider Novotown development at Hengqin island. This will also include an attraction called National Geographic Ultimate Explorer, in addition to a Hyatt Regency hotel, retail, food & beverage.

“The development Novotown and Lionsgate Entertainment World is a testament to the great potential of the Hengqin New Area, as well as its role as an economic driver throughout the Greater Bay Area,” says a spokesperson for the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area Zhuhai. “Along with the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge earlier this year, both are poised to play a key role in creating more diversified entertainment offerings for visitors and boosting tourism in the region.”

Spanning 22,000 square-metres, Lionsgate Entertainment World is Lionsgate’s first interactive indoor experience to open in the world. In addition to those already mentioned, it features franchises like Now You See Me as well as films including Escape Plan and Gods of Egypt as the backgrounds to its attractions.

Bringing those stories to life is a team of “elite” partners including the design and production agency The Thinkwell Group and operator Village Roadshow Theme Parks. Other notable partners are the Australian construction services company Cockram, show contractor Scenario and visual media producer Framestore.

Rides, retail and themed dining

Visitors will be able to look forward to several world-class attractions, including Hunger Games – Mockingjay Flight, The Twilight Saga: Midnight Ride, The Divergent Series – Fear Simulator, and Gods of Egypt – Battle for Eternity. State-of-the-art technology has been carefully incorporated into the designs of each attraction to ensure a great guest experience, while also allowing scope for the constant update of content. In total there will be over 30 attractions.

Also promised are themed dining outlets such as the Hunger Games-inspired Capitol Club, Peeta’s Bakery and Lionsgate Cafe. In addition, the indoor entertainment centre will boast a selection of themed retail options.

“As Thinkwell has been developing theme parks, family entertainment centers and museum exhibits around the world for many years now, we know there is nothing in the market like this,” says Thinkwell Asia president Kelly Ryner. “I am confident it will not only grab the attention of people on Mainland China, but internationally as well.”
