Following its success in operating the MYR1bn ($300m) Morib Gold Coast Resort project, the STG Group is all set start its second resort project in Malacca, Malaysia.

The Gold Coast Water City Malacca, earlier known as Goldcoast International Resort Malacca, was acquired from Yayasan Melaka by STG at a cost of MYR82m ($24.6m).

The resort is expected to start operations by the end of March, and STG chairman Datuk Alex Tan Siong Seng said the water city resort would consist of 322 apartments with a total of 840 rooms.

He said the resort would come with various facilities, including a boating area, fishing spot, swimming pool, theme park, playground, multipurpose square and restaurants serving Japanese and western cuisines.

"We will be investing an additional MYR18m ($5.4m) to build a new water theme park," Seng said. "The park is set to be the most attractive water theme park in Asia in terms of equipment."
