Hong Kong Palace Museum is to display more than 800 pieces from the Beijing Palace Museum, 160 of which are regarded ‘national treasures.’

The Hong Kong Palace Museum is due to open in June 2022. It will be home to nine exhibition galleries, a 400-seat auditorium, a learning and innovation centre, and F&B.

Louis Ng Chi-wa, director of Hong Kong Place Museum, commented on the decision to showcase the artefacts from the Beijing museum. “Among the 800 relics, about 20 per cent of them are listed as ‘grade-one relics’” said Louis Ng Ch-wa.

“We generally call them ‘national treasure’ grade. Most of them will be showcased for the first time in Hong Kong,” he added.

The main structure of the museum is said to have been completed this month.

The Hong Kong Place Museum is located in the West Kowloon Cultural District. It will act as a cultural organisation in Beijing and not a profit-making venture.
