Norway’s National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design will be open to the public on 11 June.
The museum, the largest in the Nordic region, arealdy houses a collection of 400,000 items collection. The new area will exhibit over 5000 works and will cover two spacious floors.
The Light Hall will house temporary exhibitions and will be filled with Norwegian Contemporary Art from 150 artists for its grand opening.
Other amenities will include an open-air roof terrace, multiple cafes and retail space. The museum will also include the largest art library in the Nordic region.
The art museum will give visitors a great vantage point overlooking the city of Oslo.
The building’s exterior has been designed by German architects Kleihues and Schuwerk and built by Norway’s Statsbygg.
The museum has the environment firmly in its list of priorities with the museum designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 per cent, compared to actual standards in Norway. The undertaking of the project has been overseen through the FutureBuilt pilot project.
