SimEx-Iwerks and the Wildlife Conservation Society have signed a new 10-year agreement to develop a next-generation cinematic attraction at Central Park Zoo.

SimEx-Iwerks and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) have formalised a new 10-year partnership agreement, with Central Park Zoo’s next-generation cinematic attraction at the centre of the deal. Announced 24 June 2026, the agreement extends a relationship spanning more than two decades across multiple WCS sites in New York.

The project replaces a 4D Theatre that has operated at Central Park Zoo for 15 years. SimEx-Iwerks is currently working with WCS on the design of the replacement attraction, which will expand on the existing format with a broader cinematic scope.

‘This new project builds on the excitement and storytelling guests already love, evolving Central Park Zoo’s highly successful 4D experience into an even more expansive, cinematic adventure,’ said Sean McAllister, senior vice president, attractions development, SimEx-Iwerks.

The new 10-year agreement covers multiple WCS destinations. Beyond Central Park Zoo, SimEx-Iwerks has operated attractions at the Bronx Zoo and the New York Aquarium under the same long-running relationship.

WCS confirmed the strategic rationale behind the renewed commitment. ‘It is important to us that the experiences we offer complement the overall zoo visit and our exhibits, while enhancing how we share stories with our guests,’ said Niko Radjenovic, vice president of business services at WCS. ‘SimEx-Iwerks has partnered with WCS on attractions that appeal to our guests and align well with our overall guest experience.’

The announcement follows SimEx-Iwerks’ opening of a redesigned 4D Immersion Theater at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium in May 2026 – another long-standing institutional partnership – and reflects a broader pattern of the company extending its presence within established zoological and aquarium relationships rather than pursuing single-project deals.

No opening timeline for the Central Park Zoo cinematic attraction has been confirmed.
