London Resort, the £2.5 billion theme park and entertainment resort that is planned to be built between Dartford and Gravesend, has been granted a four-month delay in development.
The delay follows a government review which found the site selected for the development is a designated wildlife haven.
A planning application for the project was submitted in December 2020. In March 2021, Natural England designated the land a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The status was granted by the government’s environmental advisory group and, as a consequence, any future development plans on the land must consider the wildlife in the area.
In response to the status, London Resort have asked for a four-month delay to “address the issues raised.”
The government said it would not usually agree to postpone the beginning of an examination for more than three months but agreed that it was justified to ensure a “fair process” took place within the statutory six-month examination period.
