Disneyland Paris has announced it is building a huge solar canopy energy project, one of the largest in Europe.
The solar plant is being developed in alliance with Urbasolar, France’s leading solar photovoltaic specialists. It will contribute to reducing 750 tonnes of CO2 every year, powering around 17% of the resort.
The solar plant is part of Disneyland Paris’ aim to reduce its carbon footprint and Disney’s wider objective to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions and waste.
The solar plant at Disneyland Paris is under construction with building having started in July 2020. It is set to be completed in 2023 with the first phase complete in the spring 2021. The 42-acre plant will feature 67,500 solar panels producing 31 gigawatt-hours a year.
The Disneyland Hotel and Disneyland Paris theme parks are already powered by geothermal energy via a plant located at Villages Nature Paris.
