Ocean Park Hong Kong to introduce new activities to tap into ‘staycation’ market

Ocean Park, the marine mammal park and animal theme park in Hong Kong, is to introduce new activities in an attempt to tap into China’s “staycation” market.

In October, the park will introduce hiking, yoga, and camping experiences to cater for growing demand for “staycation” holidays and activities amid the ongoing health crisis. Visitors will have the chance to practice yoga outdoors and stay the night in a brand new campsite.

According to Lau Ming-Wai, chairman of Ocean Park, the objective of the park is to launch activities that promote wellbeing and will strengthen the site’s connection with communities in the southern district.

Talking about the impending changes at Ocean Park, Ming-Wai commented:

“These are just the tip of the iceberg. It’s just the immediate changes we can make to bring new experiences without having major construction and huge expenditure … When more details on our rethink process can be announced at the end of this year, I hope it will be a newly reinvented park.”

The project is known as “Green Staycation”. It is expected to be rolled out in October this year amid the current appetite for staycation activities.

Ocean Park Hong Kong has also announced it is going to suspend its annual Halloween festival because of the current uncertain climate. It will be the first year the family event hasn’t taken place since its launch in 2001.
