Walt Disney World in Florida has opened a new Africa-inspired food area in its Animal Kingdom theme park, after a team of Imagineers and cast members took a research trip to the continent.

Harambe Market opened its doors in the Africa section of the park at the end of May.

It offers quick-service street-food dining with walk-up windows and outdoor shaded seats that can accommodate more than 200 guests.

Harambe Market's four areas of food and drink – Kiatmu Grill, Famous Sausages, Chef Mwanga's and Wanjobi Refreshment – are themed to a Colonial-era train depot.

The market's design suggests a busy and colourful commerce area, suggesting the mix of people, food and culture that might be found at such a place.

Details for the area include a 1960s water tower, hand-made signs and sayings on walls, and street vendor wares.

Harambe Market also contains a new pathway from Disney Animal Kingdom's Africa area to the theme park's Asia section.

The marketplace, combined with the new Harambe Theatre for the 'Festival of the Lion King' show, doubles the size of the park's original Harambe Village.
