The European-based operator Parques Reunidos has reached an agreement to expand its presence in the Middle East by managing Dubai Safari.

To do so, Parques Reunidos will enter into a management contract with Meraas. A leading Dubai-based holding company, Meeras is the main shareholder of DXB Entertainments, for whom Parques Reunidos already manages Motiongate Dubai and Bollywood Parks at Dubai Parks and Resorts.

In December 2017, the Dubai Municipality launched the pilot phase of Dubai Safari, a 12.8 million sq ft area of land that is home to more than 2,500 animals from around the world. The open safari experience gives visitors the opportunity to see animals in an environment that recreates their habitat. The destination includes a kids’ farm that enables youngsters to closely interact with animals in a safe outdoor setting, and the Wadi Area, where guests can enjoy a relaxing picnic by the waterfall. In addition to serving as a leisure attraction, Dubai Safari aims to help protect the environment through wildlife conservation.

“We are grateful to Meraas and Dubai Municipality for entrusting us with the operation of a remarkable project such as Dubai Safari,” says Parques Reunidos CEO, Fernando Eiroa. “This agreement offers us a valuable opportunity to leverage the expertise we have accumulated through the management of top-ranking animal parks around the world.”
