HemingwayDesign has partnered with Dreamland Margate to design an eye-catching new logo to use in 2020 to mark the amusement park’s 100th anniversary.

HemingwayDesign has created a unique Dreamland 100 brand for the site’s centenary year. The logo combines a retro style to resonate Margate’s seafront promenade with a touch of modernist minimalism, to bring the logo up to date. The design is set against a striking new wordmark for the anniversary year, designed to appeal to lifelong Dreamland visitors as well as new visitors.

The logo is brought to life through a series of imaginative animations, designed to reflect the motion and energy of the park’s rides and its endless activity. Celebrating Dreamland’s long heritage, the brand boasts the slogan: “1000 smiles per hour, 100 years, 10 decades, 1 Dreamland.”

In 1920, John Henry Iles transformed what had been a leisure venue in Margate since the 1870s, into the Dreamland pleasure garden and amusement park. It was then that the famous Scenic Railway opened to the public.

In 2015, a re-imaged Dreamland was opened, which HemingwayDesign was appointed to create the brand and design proposition. 2019 was one of the park’s most successful years since reopening, attracting around 700,000 visitors to the free-to-enter park throughout the season.

2020 looks set to be a big year for Dreamland with a number of large-scale events, new art commissions and festival fun taking place to celebrate the site’s landmark anniversary.

Dreamland’s CEO Eddie Kemsley said: “Our 100th year will celebrate the future of Margate and Dreamland as well as its past.

“Dreamland is one of the most important and striking attractions in the country, it is part of our cultural heritage. So much love and hard work has gone into preserving and celebrating this cherished seaside attraction over the past ten decades; we are immensely proud to introduce it to a new generation of Dreamers and to give them something sensational to talk about in 2020.

“Not only do we have a huge line up of events in the works, but we also look forward to sharing stories from our past – and celebrating our loyal customers – with the rest of the world.

“This year will go down in Dreamland’s history books as one of the greatest ever – watch this space,” Kemsley added.
