Riders at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia can now fly high on the Finnegan’s Flyer high-flying thrill ride, which opened on May 3, 2019.

The exhilarating Screamin’ Swing attraction is located in Busch Garden’s Ireland Village, opposite the Loch Ness Monster rollercoaster.

A total of 32 riders can board Finnegan’s Flyer and ascend to more than 80 feet while reaching speeds of 45mph on two pendulum-like arms, which swing back and forth.

The grand opening of the ride saw a number of dignitaries gather at Busch Gardens, including Virginia Senator Tommy Norment and Vicki Cimino, Executive Director and CEO of the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Council.

Kevin Lembke, park president at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA, spoke of the launch of the Screamin’ Swing attraction.

“Once again Busch Gardens has designed a ride that pushes the thrill ride envelope.

“We’re committed to providing new and unique experiences year after year.  We design these rides for our fans and strive to make each one a unique experience you can only get at Busch Gardens.”

Enthusiasm shared by Suzy Cheely, senior leader of design and engineering at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA, who commented:

“We love the name and how it naturally fits into our Ireland village.  It visually grabs your attention.

“This ride is huge.  The swings go back and forth, increasing in height, until they go beyond 90 degrees.  As you swing back and forth, you catch some airtime, which is similar to a roller coaster.  That may be unexpected, so people may be getting more of a thrill than they think,” added Cheely.
