To celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday, Hong Kong Disneyland has just kicked off a resort-wide celebration of the character that started it all.

Since his big-screen debut in Steamboat Willie on November 18, 1928, Mickey has become a global pop culture phenomenon and the unmistakable face of The Walt Disney Company. There will be celebrations at all the Disney theme parks and resorts worldwide over the coming months.

At Hong Kong Disnyeland (HKDL), the World’s Biggest Mouse Party continues until February 24, 2019. It began with a celebration on November 18 when hundreds of Disney fans joined Mickey, Minnie and 38 other beloved Disney characters at the top of the park’s Main Street USA – as pictured below.

Every night, guests can enjoy a special birthday edition of the We Love Mickey! projection show. This energetic production transforms the buildings of Main Street USA into a canvas of vibrant, colourful visuals that pay tribute to Mickey’s major milestones, with stunning visual displays from throughout the ages. During the climactic moments of the show, Mickey and party host Minnie appear in their brand-new birthday outfits.

For a limited time only, until November 27, HKDL guests are invited to take photos showing off their Mickey Mouse ears as part of the ShareYourEars campaign. For each photo uploaded to social media with the appropriate hashtags, Disney will donate US$5 to Make-A-Wish, up to a total of US$1 million. This will help make wishes come true for children with critical illnesses.

Samuel Lau, managing director of Hong Kong Disneyland, says Mickey Mouse is an iconic Disney character, beloved by countless guests of the resort. “Many people of Hong Kong have grown up with HKDL and Mickey Mouse,” he confirms.
