The Indian Association of Amusement Parks and Industries has asked the country’s government to grant the amusement park sector "social sector industry status", whilst seeking support to develop the industry’s infrastructure and standardise taxation.

After the country’s first amusement park – Appu Ghar in Delgi – opened in 1984, India now has more than 120 large-scale parks, and the industry is projected to grow at 10 to 15 per cent annually.
