Pleasure Beach Resort has confirmed its Grand National ride will re-open next month.
The wooden rollercoaster will be back on the starting stalls open towards the end of June following a period of maintenance.
The park explained that the ongoing work involves replacing sections of the track, installing a new drive sprocket, replacing parts of the pull up chain, and painting sections of the ride.
Due to the ride’s heritage, maintenance takes place by a specialist team and can sometimes require longer periods of time.
The work has been delivered by Pleasure Beach’s own engineers, who have had an incredibly busy start to their season: Engineers have been simultaneously working on the re-imagining of Launch Pad, which opened on 7 May.
Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort, said: “The wonderful thing about Pleasure Beach is that we have a unique blend of old and new.
“We’re home to some industry-leading, modern coasters like ICON, as well as nostalgic fan favourites such as Grand National.
“We know Grand National has created wonderful memories at Pleasure Beach over the years, and we’re happy to be able to announce that she will re-open in June.”
Heritage and Nostalgia intertwine like Grand National
The ride remains a firm favourite for woodies and thrill seekers alike. It’s only of only a handful of duelling roller coasters in the world and the only one of its kind in the UK.
Opening in 1935 by the American design and construction expert Charles Paige, Grand National is themed to the famous Horse Race from Aintree where the roller coaster mimics famous jumps or drops such as ‘Beaches Brook’ and ‘The Chair’.
Its latest upgrade means fans of the heritage wooden ride can enjoy the thrill of the race once more.
