The fabled Grand National ride is off to the races again, officially reopening at Pleasure Beach Resort, Blackpool
The wooden rollercoaster is back on trace following a period of maintenance.
The pitstop for Grand National involved replacing sections of the track, installing a new drive sprocket, replacing parts of the pull up chain, and painting sections of the ride.
Due to the ride’s heritage, essential maintenance takes place by a specialist team and can sometimes require longer periods of time.
Pleasure Beach Resort’s own engineers have simultaneously worked on both the Grand National and the re-imagining of Launch Pad, which opened back on 7 May.
Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort, commented before its reopening: “The wonderful thing about Pleasure Beach is that we have a unique blend of old and new. We’re home to some industry-leading, modern coasters like ICON, as well as nostalgic fan favourites such as Grand National.
“We know Grand National has created wonderful memories over the years, and we’re thrilled to be able to announce that she will re-open in June.”
The Grand National is celebrating its 90th birthday this year at Pleasure Beach Resort and remains Britain’s only surviving twin-track rollercoaster.
