Guangzhou is set to introduce a significant cultural and tourism landmark with the development of the Guangzhou International Surfing Sports World. Situated along the central axis of Huadu District and adjacent to the existing Sunac Cultural Tourism City, this expansive project encompasses approximately 1,140 mu (76 hectares) and represents a total investment of 12.7 billion yuan (approximately USD 1.8 billion).
The master plan includes 11 distinct zones featuring a comprehensive range of facilities: a year-round artificial surfing venue, a 35-meter deep diving pool, commercial areas, residential units, and educational institutions. At the heart of the development is a 163,000-square-meter sports complex dedicated to surfing and diving, complemented by 125,000 square meters of retail space designed to host lifestyle brands and dining establishments.
As the Greater Bay Area’s inaugural “surfing + urban living” integrated destination, the project aims to blend sports, leisure, and tourism. It will offer immersive experiences that combine water sports with contemporary urban amenities, targeting a younger demographic and fostering a vibrant community atmosphere.
The development is expected to synergize with the neighboring Sunac Cultural Tourism City, a major attraction in Huadu District that includes theme parks, indoor skiing facilities, and entertainment venues. This collaboration is anticipated to enhance the district’s appeal as a hub for sports and tourism, contributing to Guangzhou’s broader economic and cultural landscape.
