iQIYI, a leading Chinese online entertainment platform, has commenced construction of its second immersive theme park, iQIYI LAND, in Kaifeng, Henan Province. This development follows the recent initiation of a similar project in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, and underscores iQIYI’s strategy to expand its intellectual property (IP) into offline experiences.
The Kaifeng park will feature seven core entertainment zones: immersive theaters, holographic light spaces, interactive performance theaters, film set interaction areas, non-player character (NPC) experiences, mixed reality (MR) attractions, and IP-themed exhibits. These offerings aim to provide visitors with dynamic and participatory experiences that blend technology with storytelling.
Unlike traditional theme parks that require substantial infrastructure and upfront investment, iQIYI’s model leverages proprietary game engines, virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver agile, cost-efficient operations. This approach addresses industry challenges such as IP fatigue and high live-performance costs by enabling frequent content updates and immersive engagement.
The Kaifeng location, situated near Longting Lake Park, benefits from strong transportation connectivity to major population centers like Zhengzhou and Luoyang. This strategic positioning is expected to attract a substantial visitor base, enhancing the park’s potential success.
iQIYI’s expansion into physical entertainment venues reflects a broader trend in China’s theme park sector, which reached RMB 60 billion in 2023 and is projected to exceed RMB 110 billion by 2028. By integrating its extensive IP portfolio with cutting-edge technology, iQIYI aims to redefine the theme park experience and solidify its position in the evolving entertainment landscape.
