Kennywood will welcome back Steel Curtain to ride operations this month.
Closed for 18 months due to essential maintenance, the roller coaster will be ready to ride on 24 May.
“It all comes down to reliability,” said Kennywood General Manager Ricky Spicuzza.
“Guests shouldn’t be guessing if Steel Curtain is going to be open.”
Kennywood choose the ride name after the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 1970s defensive line; The ‘Steel Curtain’ led Pittsburgh to its first four Super Bowls in the 1970s.
Kennywood announced back in early 2024 that the roller coaster would be paused due to a necessary engineering update.
The park teamed up with S&S Worldwide, who manufactured the roller coaster, to perform an exhaustive structural overhaul and carry out maintenance work.
The return of Steel Curtain is welcome news for ride enthusiasts, who enjoy its 220-feet first drop and nine thrilling upside-down twists, turns and airtime hills. The ride roars around its track towards a top speed of 76mph.
