Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, has officially debuted the rethemed “Queen City Stunt Coaster,” formerly known as the Backlot Stunt Coaster, celebrating the ride’s 20th anniversary with a tribute to Cincinnati. The coaster reopened for season pass holders on April 18, 2025, followed by its full public opening on April 19.
Renamed and reimagined, the attraction offers a thrilling ride experience with a rapid acceleration from 0 to 40 mph in just three seconds, propelled by a linear induction motor launch system. Riders are immersed in a cinematic adventure, racing through scenes inspired by Cincinnati’s iconic landmarks, including its celebrated skyline, Union Terminal, and the city’s mysterious abandoned subway tunnels.
Originally launched in 2005 under the name “The Italian Job: Stunt Track,” referencing the 2003 action film, the coaster was renamed “Backlot Stunt Coaster” in 2008 following Cedar Fair’s acquisition of Kings Island. The current rebranding into “Queen City Stunt Coaster” continues a growing industry trend of highlighting local cultural themes, aiming to enhance visitor engagement through unique storytelling and immersive regional experiences.
The coaster’s exciting features remain intact, with 1,960 feet of track designed to deliver a high-energy, action-packed ride filled with tight turns, dramatic helixes, and immersive theming elements. This transformation not only revitalizes the attraction but also connects the park more closely to its regional heritage, setting a compelling example for the amusement industry on how to successfully rejuvenate established rides.
