All aboard! Rainbow’s End has announced that at 10am on Friday 24th October 2025 it will officially welcome Kiwis to ride its brand-new Pirate Ship, Pacifica – named for the final ocean she sailed to reach her new home.

Navigating to fun waters

The original Pirate Ship was a firm favourite for almost 40 years before being decommissioned in 2017 due to the limited availability of replacement parts. “Kiwi love for the ride never wavered, and after repeated requests from fans, Rainbow’s End began work in late 2022 to bring a brand-new Pirate Ship home for Kiwis,” stated a spokesperson for the park.

Built to rigorous specifications by German manufacturer HUSS, the ship is now in its final stages of completion with upgraded theming and enhanced guest care features.

Rainbow’s End has gone above and beyond to ensure the Pacifica’s return is one to remember. Final theming is underway, alongside immersive storytelling elements to bring the Pirate Ship story to life including the transformation of the original figurehead, Captain Esmerelda, into a living character, plus a brand-new sea shanty and an accompanying children’s book.

Meanwhile, Susan Mudie, CEO at Rainbow’s End says, “Pacifica has been nearly three years in the making, and it has been a project filled with passion and excitement. The team and I have watched it slowly come to life, and in these past couple of months especially, you can feel the energy and anticipation building in the air. We feel privileged to be bringing a new ship home.”

“We’re looking forward to fans of the original Pirate Ship being swept up in a wave of nostalgia, while younger thrill seekers get the chance to sail the seas in this new and improved version,” adds Mudie. “The Pirate Ship has always been an icon at Rainbow’s End, and with its return we’re excited for a fun summer ahead and new memories made among Kiwi families, thrill seekers and pirates alike.”
