Six Flags Over Texas confirms its world-record giga dive coaster is now in testing, with no public opening date yet announced for the 2026 season.

Tormenta Rampaging Run entered its testing phase at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Texas, on 27 May 2026. The park confirmed the milestone by posting footage of the coaster in motion on social media. The park has not set a public opening date.

Designed by Bolliger & Mabillard, the coaster stands 309 feet tall and reaches 87 mph. Both are world records for a dive coaster. It spans 4,199 feet of track – the longest ever built for a dive coaster. The main drop descends 285 feet at a beyond-vertical 95 degrees.

Two further records sit at individual elements. The Immelmann inversion peaks at 218 feet. The vertical loop stands at 179 feet, the tallest on any roller coaster.

Tormenta Rampaging Run is the world’s first giga dive coaster. The category combines giga coaster height – 300 feet or above – with a dive coaster’s holding brake and steep drop. The combination had not been attempted at this scale before.

The ride anchors Rancho de la Tormenta, a new Spanish village within the park’s Spain-themed area, alongside a new restaurant, Cocina Abuela. Vehicle design reflects the colourful costumes of the Running of the Bulls.

Track work completed in mid-March 2026. The park has since placed trains on the track and cleared all major construction equipment from the site. Six Flags Over Texas had targeted a May opening. Enthusiast events that had advertised exclusive early ride access were subsequently cancelled without explanation.

Mark Boyer is vice president and park manager for Six Flags Over Texas. He said the coaster was ‘a true testament to our commitment to providing world-class thrills and innovation’. Sophie Bolliger, president of Bolliger & Mabillard, said Tormenta Rampaging Run ‘introduces a completely new ride category, blending giga coaster heights with the fun and thrill of a dive coaster’.

Tormenta Rampaging Run is the headline attraction for the park’s 65th anniversary year. Six Flags Over Texas opened in Arlington on 1 August 1961, the first park in the Six Flags chain.
