SeaWorld has opened its latest attraction with guests set for a chilly adventure onboard ‘Expedition Odyssey.’

The ride is a flying theatre where guests will journey on an artic adventure, scaling a snow-capped mountain top before diving down a cliff, plunging into Arctic waters, and navigating icy terrain while portions of the experience offer closer to ground, slower-paced, bird’s eye view of animals in their environments.

Expedition Odyssey is the world’s first fully immersive Arctic experience. Combining dynamic motion, state-of-the-art visuals and real-world animal encounters, the ride voyages to towering glaciers, vast tundra and the icy depths of the Arctic Ocean, encountering some of the planet’s most awe-inspiring wildlife along the way.

Chris Baker, SeaWorld vice president of park operations, SeaWorld said: “We’ve added some great coasters in the last few years, with Pipeline: The Surf Coaster, Penguin Trek, Ice Breaker, and this, helps us bridge that gap between thrill and family.”

How Expedition Odyssey was developed

Curated by Mack Rides, Expedition Odyssey is a custom installation of the German manufacturer’s Airific flying theatre.

Mack Rides teamed up with SeaWorld to design components of the ride to fit through existing doors in the park’s Wild Arctic habitat.

“We sent teams on several weeks long expeditions to the Arctic,” expanded Conner Carr, SeaWorld corporate vice president of rides and engineering,

“This is all custom film for this attraction for our guests and brought those two together to create this multi-dimensional experience where you get to see all of the animals and experience them and come face-to-face with them in the film in a dynamic way.”

Expedition Odyssey launches this spring at SeaWorld Orlando, bringing unparalleled ride technology, breath taking real-world footage and up-close encounters.

At the heart of Expedition Odyssey is a revolutionary ride system that pushes the boundaries of theme park technology.

Unlike traditional motion-based attractions, this next-generation vehicle delivers an unparalleled range of motion, allowing guests to soar, dive, twist and glide with the fluidity of ocean currents.

And the adventure doesn’t end when the ride does. Expedition Odyssey seamlessly transitions guests into a real-world encounter with live Arctic animals, including beluga whales and walruses.

Expedition Odyssey is a family-friendly thrill, with a height requirement of 39 inches. So, kids and adults alike can embark on a memorable Arctic expedition together.
