Shanghai Disney Resort celebrates its 10th anniversary with a new hotel name confirmed, a Spider-Man coaster in progress, and an ambitious pipeline pointing to further resort-wide growth.
Shanghai Disney Resort turned ten on 16 June 2026 – and the milestone arrives with a full development slate rather than a pause for reflection. Andrew Bolstein, president and general manager of the resort, used the anniversary to confirm the name of its third hotel and signal that a Spider-Man-themed land is on track for Shanghai Disneyland.
The resort opened in Pudong, Shanghai, on 16 June 2016 as Disney’s first destination in mainland China. It operates as a joint venture between The Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group. In October 2025, just over nine years after opening, it welcomed its 100 millionth guest visit. Guest satisfaction scores remain high: over 90% of visitors rate their experience as good or excellent, according to Bolstein.
The anniversary announcement confirmed the name of the resort’s third hotel: the Disney Enchanted Star Hotel. Construction is on schedule, with the hotel set to open this winter. Early preparation work has also begun on a fourth hotel and an associated expansion of Disneytown, the resort’s retail and dining district.
Progress on the Spider-Man-themed land – set to become the ninth themed land at Shanghai Disneyland – was also highlighted. The final section of ride track for the land’s high-energy coaster was recently installed, marking a construction milestone. No opening date has been confirmed.
The resort now spans eight themed lands and two hotels, and has grown into one of Asia’s most attended entertainment destinations. The Zootopia land, which opened in December 2023, is cited by Bolstein as an example of the resort’s development approach – applying Disney intellectual property to original, location-specific guest experiences. LinaBell, a character created and debuted at Shanghai Disney Resort in 2021, has since expanded to other Disney parks across Asia.
The resort’s founding ethos – described by former Disney chief executive Bob Iger as ‘authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese’ – has shaped its design and programming since opening. Cultural references range from the golden peony motif on the Enchanted Storybook Castle to the inclusion of traditional Shanghai Huju Opera in the castle stage show.
The year-long anniversary programme carries the theme ‘With You, It’s Magic+’, which Bolstein described as a tribute to guests, cast members, and Imagineers who have contributed to the resort’s first decade.
