Kings Dominion theme park in Virginia, US, has announced multi-million dollar seven-acre expansion plans for its Planet Snoopy themed area.

Set to open in spring 2013, the expanded Planet Snoopy will be the world's largest Peanuts themed children's area at nearly 14 acres.

Kings Dominion vice president and general manager, Pat Jones, said: "Snoopy and the Peanuts gang are instantly recognisable and nostalgic characters that both parents and children can experience together.

"This sizeable expansion to Planet Snoopy is unparalleled in scope to anything in this region and re-affirms our commitment to delivering world-class family thrills and entertainment."

Twelve new and re-themed family attractions are planned, including a balloon ride, teacups and a new twist and hop aboard a Peanuts-themed railway.
