A 4D movie theatre has opened at the Maritime Aquarium in Norfolk. The new family attraction debuted at the venue on February 22.

The cinematic experience is propelled out of a two-story screen, alongside sensory special effects, including bubbles, snow, wind, mist and more.

The 4D movie was built in partnership with SimEx-Iwerks Entertainment. It boasts a 169-seat state-of-the-art theatre. Two films play every hour throughout the day.

BBC Earth’s ‘Shark: A 4D Experience’ puts visitors face-to-face with some of the world’s most rare and mysterious shark species. ‘Ice Age: No Time for Nuts 4D’ offers a family-friendly cinematic experience, which follows a nut-crazed saber-toothed squirrel who time-travels his way through adventures.

Jason Patlis, president and CEO of the Maritime Aquarium commented: “We’re very excited for our guests to have this fun, new, immersive way of exploring and understanding our world.

“Having a shark swim right off the screen so that you believe you can touch it and feeling the spray as an ocean wave crashes will be memorable shared experiences for kids and parents, students and teachers, young and old. Including a 4D movie is going to be a must during a visit to The Maritime Aquarium,” Patlis added.
