A new waterpark that stretches across 1,200 square metres and cost £15m to design and construct, has opened to the public in Rhyl, Wales.

Known as SC2, the waterpark opened on April 12th and welcomed more than 2,000 visitors through its doors during its first weekend of opening.

SC2 Rhyl has three fume rides and beach-style paddling. The waterpark was supplied by the water attraction design, engineer, manufacturer and installation specialists, Polin.

Alliance Leisure were also involved in the design of the project, having been commissioned as Denbighshire’s delivery partner from concept to completion.

Outdoor attractions are present at the site as well as indoor water play, with a sun deck, beach changing hut, bar, outdoor splash pads and a seating terrace open in the summer.

Denbighshire Councillor Bobby Feeley shared his excitement about the public’s reception to SC2.

“We’re thrilled with the response during our first full weekend open to the public. There’s a real buzz surrounding SC2 across the whole of North Wales and we are very proud of this exciting new attraction and first-class facility,” said Feeley.

The project was mostly funded by Denbighshire County Council, with Rhyl Town Council putting in an additional £2m of funding and £800,000 from the Welsh government.

SC2 is located on the promenade in Rhyl. The venue is expected to attract an extra 350,000 visitors to the North Wales town each year.
