Dates have finally been set for the official opening of Disneyland’s highly-awaited new Star-Wars Galaxy Edge theme parks.

On May 31, the Star Wars-themed expansion will open its doors to visitors at Disneyland in California. Three months later, on August 29, Galaxy Edge will commence proceedings at Florida’s Disney world Resort.

The new 14-acre sites will feature rides, attractions and experiences, which take visitors on a journey through the much-loved Star Wars trilogy and the timeless struggle between good and evil.

The principle attraction at the Galaxy Edge lands is a huge replica of the Millennium Falcon, where visitors meander round the legendary star ship, engage in a fast-paced dogfight with single-pilot TIE fighter vehicles and stand in awe when a hologram image of Rey appears with a message.

A team of six people will operate the spacecraft from the cockpit during the interactive experiences, which promise to get a tad bumpy.

Opportunities to take selfies with the most fabled features and characters of the legendary fight between the Resistance and the evil First Order, will be abundant onboard the spaceship, which is an exact replica of the Millennium Falcon in the films.

From creating their own personal droids and light sabers to tucking into Star Wars’-themed food washed down with Star Wars drinks, guests can enjoy a truly authentic experience at the imminent new themed sites.

Bob Chapek, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts chairman spoke of the constant interaction visitors will have with the different elements of the Star Wars trilogy.

“You will not think you’re in a theme park. Every cast member will be in character, the food and beverage and language will be in story. The merchandise inside the shops won’t be in boxes that say Disney on them. Everything is very, very immersive,” said Chapek.

Work on fine-tuning the equipment is currently taking place at Disney Resorts but the main attractions, buildings, shops and restaurants have already been constructed.
