Renovations to Vancouver’s Playland, one of the oldest amusement parks in Canada, could begin in 2022.

In 2016, officials from the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) announced the 22-acre park was going to be heavily renovated with new rides and themed areas.

Vancouver council have approved a $1.5 million cash injection for detailed plans to be drawn up to compile a $120 million funding strategy for a 10-year expansion of the theme park.

Initial plans for the development of Playland show rollercoasters may be in the pipeline, including a spinning coaster, a suspended family coaster, a major launch coaster and a gliding coaster.

It is reported that the PNE is aiming to complete the business case for the park’s redevelopment plan by 2020 and is currently evaluating funding, costs and alternative financing options.

Playland is located in Hastings Park in Vancouver and the redevelopment of the amusement site is part of a wider plan to transform Hastings Park into a more environmentally-friendly venue for sport, culture, recreation and fun.

It is believed that the redevelopment of Playlands will be completed by 2028.
