On May 17, 2019, Nashville’s Gaylord Opryland opened its outdoor area of the SoundWaves Water Experience to hotel guests, as part of a grand opening celebration.

SoundWaves Water Experience is an indoor/outdoor waterpark, designed and built by Aquatic Development Group (ADG). The building of Soundwaves is part of a $90 million expansion project of Gaylord Opryland. The indoor area was opened in January 2019.

A series of luxury cabanas line a 315,000-gallon wave pool which extends across 23,000 square feet and features a giant poolside LED movie screen.

Also featured in the new 106,000 square feet outdoor experience is a 45 feet slide tower, comprising of a four-track mat racer and two drop slides.

The outdoor waterpark is also home to a 900 square feet adult-only pool, and a children’s pool with custom multi-level play structure. A sun lounge shelf and bench seating enable parents to relax as the kids splash around and have fun in the pool.

A series of slides, a Flowrider surf attraction, two fast rivers, an adult-only pool and bar area feature in the 111,000 square feet indoor fun area.

The expansion of Gaylord Opryland was designed by Blur Workshop of Atlanta, GA, with the aim of providing innovative progression in the architectural design of waterparks with design elements that have not been seen before in the industry.

To achieve such vision, the project’s construction manager, Ryman and DF Chase, collaborated with long-time partner Aquatic Development Group to work on the design of the waterpark.

James Chamblin, vice president of design and construction at Ryman, commented:

“ADG brings over half a century of experience and knowledge to our team. They have helped lead the way in creating superior settings in all aspects of aquatic resort recreation, tailoring project plans to fit their client’s vision and budget.

“Their In-depth approach and “get it done” culture ensure that every step of the process is carried out in the best interest of the clients’ overall business.”
