The longest roller coaster in Europe has ridden its last ride. The Ultimate, located in the English amusement park Lightwater Valley, was closed in 2020 due to Covid-19.

A new owner took control of the park but The Ultimate is not part of their plans.

In a statement, Lightwater Valley says. “There are no plans for a reopening. We understand the disappointment of some visitors, but for several years we have been profiling ourselves as an adventure park for families with children up to 12 years old. The Ultimate doesn’t fit with that new direction.”

The Ultimate opened in 1991 as the longest roller coaster in the world – a staggering 2268-metres (7440ft) and more than 32-meters high (105ft.) The course has three chain lifts and flew along at up to 80 kilometres (50mph).
