The Walt Disney Company has announced plans to develop its first theme park and resort in the Middle East.

The new theme park will be located on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

This project, marking Disney’s seventh global theme park resort, is a collaboration with Miral, an Abu Dhabi-based developer known for creating immersive destinations.

Miral will finance, construct, and operate the resort, while Disney’s Imagineers will oversee the creative design and provide operational input.

Situated on Yas Island, a prominent entertainment hub already home to attractions like Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, the new Disney resort aims to blend Disney’s iconic storytelling with Emirati culture and architecture.

In addition, the development is expected to feature themed attractions, accommodations, dining, and retail experiences that reflect both Disney’s heritage and the futuristic essence of Abu Dhabi.

“This is a thrilling moment for our company as we announce plans to build an exciting Disney theme park resort in Abu Dhabi, whose culture is rich with an appreciation of the arts and creativity,” said Robert A. Iger, Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company.

“As our seventh theme park destination, it will rise from this land in spectacular fashion, blending contemporary architecture with cutting edge technology to offer guests deeply immersive entertainment experiences in unique and modern ways.

“Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati – an oasis of extraordinary Disney entertainment at this crossroads of the world that will bring to life our timeless characters and stories in many new ways and will become a source of joy and inspiration for the people of this vast region to enjoy for generations to come.”

Indeed, this initiative aligns with Disney’s broader strategy to expand its global presence and cater to diverse audiences worldwide.

Therefore, the announcement underscores Abu Dhabi’s commitment to enhancing its tourism sector and diversifying its economy through large-scale entertainment projects.

The collaboration between Disney and Miral will contribute significantly to the region’s appeal as a global destination for leisure and entertainment.
