Wild Rivers, a waterpark in Irvine, California, which closed in 2011, has unveiled information about its new site and an official opening date for 2020.

The park, which was expected to reopen in 2019, will be 50% bigger than its former site, and will include a river that is 400 feet longer and a much larger wave pool. The waterpark will still feature its Bombay Blasters slide, as well as an exciting new Congo River Rapids ride.

Other highlights at the new look Wild Rivers include an uphill water coaster and water play structures for children.

Mike Riedel, Wild Rivers CEO, described the revamped waterpark as being “dramatically different” with rides that are “far and away better.”

Riedal noted how the design and financing for the waterpark were still be finalised but he was confident construction will begin once the lease is signed.

“Council’s been pretty clear that they want Wild Rivers, and Wild Rivers has been pretty clear about wanting to be there,” Riedal added.

The bigger and better park is expected to cost around $50 million to design and is forecast to open in May 2020.
