Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has unveiled plans to build a Hurricane Harbor waterpark in Haiyan, China.

The waterpark will be located adjacent to the $4.6bn Six Flags Zhejiang theme park, which is currently under construction on the coast of Hangzhou Bay.

The large-scale leisure facility will be the group’s first theme park in China, featuring numerous roller coasters, rides and attractions. The new Hurricane Harbor will add to this a range waterslides, a wave pool, a lazy river and children’s water play area.

Six Flags, along with its development partner Riverside Investment, said Mark Kane will lead the theme park and waterpark operations when they open in 2019.

With more than 35 years of experience in the theme park and hospitality industry, Kane most recently served as vice president of Houston-based Landry’s, where he was responsible for the design, development and daily operations for the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier.

“Mark is a proven leader and a trailblazer,” said John Odum, president, Six Flags International Development Company. “His expansive knowledge of the theme park industry and experience overseeing a massive development project from start to finish is a major plus.

“Mark’s background, coupled with Riverside’s reputation as a premier real estate and tourism developer, will solidify Six Flags Zhejiang and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor as best-in-class global entertainment destinations.”
