Alton Towers has reopened with its new haunted-themed attraction the Curse of Alton Towers.

The attraction takes over from its previous incarnation Duel, an interactive shooting dark. It has been given a haunting makeover fit to a creative storyline based on Emily Alton, the troubled daughter of well-off Victorian parents, who vanished mysteriously one night, leaving Emily on her own and is looking for ‘someone to play with.’

John Burton, Creative Lead, Merlin Magic Making said: “This is a 21st-century haunted house where we will take guests on a spine-tingling journey through scenes where we bring a new story to life using state-of-the-art special effects to really wow our guests.”

The haunted dark ride is in vogue in recent times with theme parks and amusement parks producing scary-themed attractions away from the traditional Halloween season as spooky attractions are increasing in population due to paranormal series such as Stranger Things.

As one attraction at Alton Towers opens, another has temporarily closed with the much beloved Nemesis ride closing this season for retracking and general maintenance ready for the 2024 season.
