Listen to this article

Bellewaerde in Belgium has recently launched its latest attraction, Amazonia, marking a new era for the classic Rapids Ride.

This innovative ride promises an unforgettable experience, featuring world-first elements and cutting-edge technologies that offer guests a thrilling and unique adventure. With a ride length of 540 meters, a maximum height of 26 meters, and a 15-meter-high Halfpipe, Amazonia sets several records. It is the longest spinning rafting ride in Europe, the first to feature a Halfpipe element, the first with combined inclined and vertical lifts, and the world’s first water ride with a Bungee Element.

The ride design includes a high-speed inclined lift, a thrilling Bungee element, an iconic Halfpipe, and a space-saving Rotating Vertical Lift. The boats are ergonomically designed for maximum comfort, and the steel channels are built for efficient space usage and high durability, providing more stability with less structure needed.

Riders begin their journey by ascending an inclined lift, navigating through spinning steel channels, and enjoying fun splashes before entering a slow-moving floating section. The Rotating Vertical Lift then offers panoramic views as it ascends to an 18-meter-high elevated section, leading to an exhilarating drop down the Halfpipe. The ride concludes with a surprising 5-meter Bungee Drop, offering an almost weightless moment.

Amazonia is the result of decades of technological innovation and collaboration between Intamin and Bellewaerde, representing a significant evolution of the classic Rapids Ride. This ambitious project highlights the commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional rides, providing an unparalleled adventure for guests. Nestled within the vibrant Mundo Amazonia zone, Amazonia immerses visitors in the allure of an abandoned mining town in the Amazonian jungle, surrounded by lush foliage and exotic flora. This captivating setting enhances the overall experience, making Amazonia a must-visit attraction at Bellewaerde.
