Emerge Surf project in Birmingham has been given a huge boost thanks to a £50m investment by Swiss real estate company Stoneweg InfraSport.
The surfing experience is expected to open 2025 with estimated visitor numbers of 200,000 guests annually.
The 5.4-acre man-made surfing lagoon will be capable of producing two waves every eight seconds, up to two-metres (6.5ft) high in the advances pool and 1-metre (3.4ft) for the intermediates. Surfers can expect water conditions geared up from beginners to professionals.
It was back in August 2019 when Emerge Surf first submitted a planning application to the North Warwickshire Borough Council for a £25 million facility focused on a wave pool at Coleshill, a suburb of Birmingham.
The site covers 15 acres in total and will provide surfing lessons, a surf shop, restaurant, fitness studio, physio and massage room and children’s play area.
Additional amenities in the plan include an outdoor heated swimming pool, a perimeter track for electric skateboards and a 17,000 square foot building.
Energy Surf will focus on renewable energy and low-carbon technology to aid environmental aspects.
